Shopping in Palau

A variety of local products and handicrafts can be purchased in Palau. Palau has two main shopping centers (WCTC Shopping Center and Surangels Super Center) which are located across from each other in the center of Koror—both of these shopping centers have grocery and department stores. There are three Duty Free Shops (DFS) in Palau—one at Palau Pacific Resort, one at Palasia Resort and the last at the airport departure gate. Plus, there are many small gift shops, boutiques and markets in Koror.

While there are many businesses which sell quality Palauan-made products, a few places also offer visitors the opportunity to watch as artists create these handicrafts. The Palau Pacific Resort employs a Palauan weaver who demonstrates the traditional art of weaving. At the Senior Citizen's Cultural Center, a variety of locally made products – from hand-woven items to carved storyboards — can be purchased. Often live demonstrations can also be seen. Beautiful storyboards can be purchased at Tebang Woodcarving, where you also have a chance to watch storyboard carvers in various stages of the carving process. And, of course, storyboards carved by talented inmates can also be purchased at the national jail.

The Palauan and International Night Markets held once or twice a month is a great venue to sample local and international cuisine and experience local entertainment. In addition, a wide variety of Palau-made products from weaved baskets to storyboards and jewelry are also available.

The Belau National Museum and the Etpison Museum have gift shops on site offering visitors a variety of Palauan made products and souvenirs. The museums are also a great place to learn more about the history and culture of Palau.
